Crazy Money! Toilet Theft

It’s Crazy Money Day!

Blenheim Palace in southern England is a major tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Early one morning in 2019, a group of 5 men drove 2 stolen vehicles through locked wooden gates onto palace grounds. Breaking a window, they entered the building to steal an item insured for $6 million. Ripping it from the wall, the men fled within 5 minutes. What would motivate such a dramatic heist? An 18-carat gold toilet. That’s crazy! Fox News reports that the fully functioning toilet created by an Italian artist was on display. The gold was never recovered. It was probably divided and sold in smaller amounts. Prosecutors believe that the guilty verdicts in June of 2025 broke up a wider crime and money laundering network.

People do ridiculous things for money. I’m reminded of Paul’s words in 1 Timothy 6: Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 22:1: A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” Let’s flee the love of money and the temptations of this world to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Find peace and contentment in Christ, and Christ alone.
