Crazy Money! The Importance of October 31st
It’s Crazy Money Day!
I love the fall, but I will be glad when Halloween is over. Spending on this holiday last year was around $12 billion. That’s $12 BILLION on candy, costumes, and decorations! I think that’s crazy!
Retailers love the money that Halloween brings in, which is why major chains put out their decorations early, but do you celebrate the greater importance of this day? On October 31st, 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg. That action set in motion the Reformation, and that reshaped the history of Western civilization.
Luther struggled with feeling accepted by God. During a study in the book of Romans, he read, “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17) This phrase brought him freedom. He wrote, “This one and firm rock, which we call the doctrine of justification, is the chief article of the whole Christian doctrine, which comprehends the understanding of all godliness.” No matter how hard Luther tried to earn God’s forgiveness, he finally learned that it is only by trusting in God’s love and grace that he was made righteous, and through faith, he found peace with God.
Now, you can too! If you’re stressed about money, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Resting in Him by faith alone is better than anything Halloween can offer!
