Crazy Money! Old Homestead Steakhouse

It’s Crazy Money Day!

Did you eat some cranberry sauce yesterday? The iconic Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York City was established in 1868. It claims to be the oldest steakhouse in the nation. Last year, it offered a “dollop” of cranberry sauce for $195. The family recipe dates back to the 1900s. They elevated it with truffle shavings, 24-carat gold flakes, and Manuka Honey from New Zealand. In 2019, they served a $180,000 holiday meal with all the fixings, but their budget-friendly option was $85 per person.

Eating out is a way of life for many in America. It’s convenient and relaxing, but hard on the budget if practiced frequently. There are ways to save money and still make mealtime special by including the entire family.

Plan the menu and buy groceries, taking advantage of sale items. Or use ingredients you already have on hand. Rotate preparation, cooking, and clean-up chores. Children will learn to appreciate meals more when they take part in the work that goes into it. Turn off the TV and put away electronics for uninterrupted conversation. Invite friends or relatives over to demonstrate how to prepare special dishes. Consider picking a night of the week for certain meals. Meatless Mondays and Taco Tuesdays are two examples that cut down on menu planning. We know people who have Leftover Night with their neighbors. They plan ahead and bring their extras to share. You truly can enjoy eating at home without the price of eating out, and if eating out has led you into credit card debt, Christian Credit Counselors can create a debt management plan that works.
