Crazy Money! LA Lifeguard Salaries

It’s Crazy Money Day!

If you’re looking to earn more money, you might want to think about becoming a lifeguard. Auditors discovered that nearly 100 Los Angeles lifeguards earned over $200,000 last year with benefits. 20 of them made between $300,000 and $500,000. Several earned over-time pay that rivals corporate executives. The highest paid lifeguard earned over half a million dollars. As lifeguard captain, his salary was $150,000, plus perks and benefits. His overtime pay was nearly $250,000. It’s no desk job and many face dangerous rescues. However, after 30 years of service, LA lifeguards can retire at age 55 on 79% of their pay.

Pool lifeguards don’t earn anywhere near that kind of money. However, it can be lucrative for students. One of my sons lifeguarded at a community college. At that time, his position was the highest paid student job. Remember: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:23-24) So work hard but don’t allow it to interfere with your relationship with Christ, your spouse, or your family. In all that you do, be honest, faithful, and honoring of fellow employees. Pray for your company and the people there. The next time you see a lifeguard, earning crazy money or not, pray for them, too.
