Crazy Money! Kentucky Derby Winner
It’s Crazy Money Day!
I grew up going to horse races at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. I couldn’t figure out why people whooped and hollered about horses running a track until I got old enough to put a couple of dollars down on a horse, and then I got it! I no longer spend money that way, nor do I suggest it, but many people do, and a lot is spent on training horses to run that race.
Sovereignty won $3.1 million at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Second-place earned a million, and 3rd took home half a million. Owners spend a lot of money to get there. The average auction price of horses in the 2023 Derby was over $400,000 plus training, vet care, equipment, and food. Add in transportation, entry fees, nominations, and jockey fees, and it costs more than $800,000 just to qualify. No wonder, there’s whooping and hollering to win, but I think it’s crazy!
The Bible describes crowds cheering for a man who rode a donkey. Matthew said, “A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (Matthew 21:8-9)
In the book of Revelation, John tells us that Jesus will return on a white horse with all His angels. He’ll deliver justice and establish God’s kingdom. That day will be more exciting than any horse race could ever be! Are you ready?
