Crazy Money! Holiday Film That Was a Financial Flop
It’s Crazy Money Day!
In 1947, a film was released that was considered a complete financial flop. It was made on a $3.7 million budget. Though nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it only earned $3.3 million at the box office. Today, the film is considered one of the greatest holiday films of all time, and it continues to generate revenue through streaming services and DVD sales. Have you guessed it? It’s a Wonderful Life!
Losing money is emotionally challenging. I’ve experienced it. It’s normal to feel upset, discouraged, and jump to the conclusion that God isn’t concerned with our situation. It’s tempting to give up praying and believing that God will act. However, remember, Psalm 33:
“…the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.”
Hope can be rekindled by trusting in the power and sovereignty of God. Rather than dwelling on your past losses and mistakes, trust Him with your future. Practice gratitude, seek the advice of wise family and friends, pray fervently, and act! For inspiration, study George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life.
