Crazy Money! Greatest Business Deal?

It’s Crazy Money Day! 

In 1886, a candy store in Vicksburg, Mississippi, began experiencing brisk sales of a fountain beverage priced at 5 cents a glass. The formula for the drink was created by John S. Pemberton. Over the next several years, the popularity of the drink grew exponentially. In 1892, Pemberton sold the formula and patents to Asa Candler, an Atlanta businessman. Candler formed a company around the drink and expanded promotion and sales across the country. Shareholders learned that the beverage was sold in every state and territory in the United States. Despite its popularity, the drink was still only available as a fountain beverage. So, Candler sold the rights to bottle the beverage and sell it across the country for the sum of one dollar! Coca-Cola took off from there and became one of the most recognized brands in the world! That’s crazy!

Some would call this the greatest business deal of all time. Yet, it doesn’t compare to the negotiation that took place between Satan and Jesus for our purchase. Satan promised Jesus the whole world if he would bow down and worship him. He refused the offer and chose rather to suffer for our sins to redeem us from the darkness. Satan is constantly enticing us with things, riches, power, and pleasure for submission to his ways. He seeks to buy us all in exchange for trinkets! We must stand firm, renew our minds, and trust the One who offers the greatest deal of all time – eternal life!
