Crazy Money! From Football to Mortgages

It’s Crazy Money Day!

40 years ago, a boy was raised in a Washington, D.C. middle-class home. He helped out in his dad’s hardware store. On weekends, he and his grandfather salvaged parts from junk cars to sell to scrap yards. They donated the money to churches or to buy clothes for the needy, instilling within him a spirit of generosity. He played football at the University of Virginia, was drafted into the pros, and won a Super Bowl in 2003. He gave that Super Bowl ring to his father and used the $50,000 Super Bowl bonus as a down payment on a home. He left football and co-founded Movement Mortgage, which became a $30 billion retail mortgage lender. Their unique approach to home loans centered around helping homebuyers, quickly and easily. They poured their profits into Movement Foundation which has invested more than $260 million in schools, communities, and ministries around the world.

Casey Crawford is a brother in Christ. His bio is remarkable. An article at TwoTenMagazine quotes him as saying, “God called us to love our neighbors as ourselves. We do it by taking care of customers. Putting them in mortgages they can afford, providing a pleasant experience, and creating a company that actually cares about the people on the team. And then we pour out the rest into the communities we serve… Just like Jesus, we let our light shine so that they may see our good works and give glory to the Father who is in heaven.” Well done, Casey!
