Crazy Money! British Accent Paid Off Debt
It’s Crazy Money Day!
Years ago, I read an inspiring story about a young woman trying to pay off $24,000 of credit-card debt on her $52,000 salary. She had done occasional voice-overs since college. Growing up in the United Kingdom, she had a beautiful accent. When a friend asked her to narrate his video game, she was inspired. Through a website, she began offering 125 words of voice-over recordings in her British accent for $5. Her first week on the site, she got an order. Over the next few months, more orders started trickling in. The month of March 2014, she made $3,500, and her side gig kept growing. By September, she realized she was making more through the website than at her full-time job. So, she gave a generous four months’ notice. She became debt-free, earning good money, all from voice-over gigs that she found online.
Perhaps you have a talent that you can use to grow your income and pay off debt, or as a means to expand your giving and investing. There are plenty of places online to market your talents and services. Start by considering what God has uniquely equipped you to do. Maybe you also have a special accent or a writing ability. Are you musical or artistic? Ask God to give you inspiration. Who would have thought that a British accent could earn $11,000 a month in 2014, working only 30 hours a week? I wonder what my accent is worth?
