Crazy Money! Bouncing Back From Bankruptcy
It’s Crazy Money Day!
A century ago, a young entrepreneur started a studio in Kansas named Laugh-O-Gram. Though popular, enormous debt forced the company into bankruptcy. The creator was penniless and discouraged, but refused to give up. Believing California would give him a fresh start, he moved to Hollywood, where he and his brother formed a cartoon studio. They created Mickey Mouse and were on their way until their distributor, Columbia Pictures, went bankrupt. He worked on a cartoon the length of a feature film, and nearly lost everything again. The production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in 1938, depended on a last-minute loan. That movie bankrolled Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
Today, the Walt Disney Company is worth billions of dollars. Disney said, “You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” He experienced several of those kicks and learned something through every experience. He refused to give up. James 1:2-4 puts it this way, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
When we go through tough times, let’s remember that God knows exactly what we need and when. In his loving kindness, he disciplines us and works all things together for our good. The key is surrendering to His will and His way.
