Crazy Money! Bonsai Bandit
It’s Crazy Money Day!
The ancient art of Bonsai originated in China and was introduced to Japan where the art was perfected. Bonsai trees were often presented as gifts to emperors and noblemen. It’s a method of cultivating miniature trees that mimic the shape and style of full-size trees. Through meticulous pruning and tying, these living works of art take years to develop and become very valuable.
In December of ’24, a bonsai thief was captured by surveillance camera. Prized trees worth hundreds of dollars were stolen from two garden centers around New Orleans, Louisiana. A 40-year old woman was arrested and booked on one count of simple burglary. If convicted she faces a fine up to $2,000 and a possible 12 years in prison! Now I wonder what motivated that crime?
Each of us will face temptations to compromise our integrity, but God placed us here to reveal Himself through us. For this to happen, we must live by His standards of absolute honesty. That may result in personal loss or persecution. Even the loss of money. Luke 16:11 says, “If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” And those, my friends, are worth more than any bonsai tree! “…since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
