Crazy Money! $100 Ice Cubes
It’s Crazy Money Day!
Arctic Ice is a 2-year-old startup company that captures large floating icebergs from a fjord in western Greenland. Cut and packed into refrigerated containers, the ice is loaded onto cargo ships headed for Dubai. There, employees carve the chunks and package them in luxury gift boxes. A small pair of tongs and 6 cubes of ice sell for $100. That’s crazy!
One study predicts the global ice market will reach over $7 billion in 2027. Dubai’s known for heat and wealth, creating a perfect market for Arctic Ice! What’s so special about Greenland’s ice anyway? It’s supposedly cleaner and denser as a result of being compressed for centuries. It’s reportedly free of dirt and bacteria, and melts slowly, keeping drinks cold without diluting them. Some people avoid drinking ice-cold fluids at mealtimes because it’s believed to slow down digestion. They say drinking something cold while eating something hot makes it harder to taste the food. Plus, it can increase the occurrence of acid reflux.
Regardless of whether you like ice or not, the question is, would you spend $100 on 6 ice cubes? In 1 Corinthians 10:31, the Apostle Paul said, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” We should be wise in how we spend the money God entrusts to us. Spending it on luxuries limits how much we can give, save, or invest. Plus, it can lead to a lifetime of debt and a lifestyle that’s difficult to maintain. So, think before you purchase!
