Crazy Money! $100 Billion in Prescription Drugs

It’s Crazy Money Day!

I’m grateful that I don’t have to take prescription drugs. Many are less fortunate. They’re spending more money due to the increase in use and costs, especially for cancer and weight loss. According to a survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation, 60% of adults currently take prescription meds. The most common number taken per person is four or more. 30% of those surveyed have difficulty affording them, especially when taking several. To reduce the cost, they substitute something over the counter, skip doses, or cut pills in half. In 2024, out-of-pocket costs rose to an all-time high. The cost in drugs administered outside retail pharmacies increased as well. Those include prescriptions dispensed at long-term care facilities and hospitals. All in all, Americans spent $100 billion on prescription drugs in 2024. That sounds crazy!

Unfortunately, many people don’t want to change their lifestyle, change their diet, or exercise, and many suffer severe health conditions from carrying stress, bitterness, and unforgiveness. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We must steward them wisely by taking appropriate steps in the prevention of chronic disease. God gave us His Word for our good. Listen to Proverbs 4: My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.” (Proverbs 4:20-22)
