Buying Luxury Products – Part 2
Are you addicted to top brands?
People rationalize their behavior to get luxury items. They borrow money and forsake future financial security for present satisfaction. Some resort to gambling or illegal activity to try to stay afloat. They don’t know contentment or true peace. It’s wise to live in such a way that we can meet our obligations. Some day we’ll stand before the Lord to give an account for our choices. Eternity stretches before us, and our choices have long-lasting implications. We need to make sure our priorities for spending are greater than our fleshly desires. In Matthew 6:19–21, Jesus said, “Don’t store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
We should count the cost before spending money, with a few simple questions:
• What’s the motivation for the purchases?
• Do I really need it? Can I find an affordable substitute?
• Does my spending teach proper values to my children?
• What’s the long-term benefit of this purchase?
• What am I sacrificing in order to buy this?
• Would the Lord approve of it?
If buying luxury items is a stronghold in your life, confess it, repent, and be grateful for what you have. Ask the Lord to help you be satisfied in Him and all that He provides. He’ll help you reset your priorities just as He has helped me.
