Be Watchful!

If money is involved, keep your guard up!

Giving is on our hearts and minds this season, but one gift can make you a victim of compromise! Satan, the enemy of our souls, constantly offers to give us more of the world if we simply compromise our mission. He’s an expert deceiver who “disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14) Consider the warning in 1 Peter 5:8. “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

Our enemy tempts us with luxury and delights when we acquire wealth to distract us from fulfilling our real purpose. He even tempted Jesus by taking him to a very high mountain and showing him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” (Matthew 4:9) Of course, Jesus rejected the offer. 

Tragically, his deceptive offers are easier to recognize when presented to others than when we’re on the receiving end. We must learn to watch for and reject his schemes, or we’ll exchange eternal joy for temporal pleasures, and we’ll gain nothing – except the applause from men, the fleeting sense of power, and the satisfaction of indulging our passions for a season. Guard yourself by knowing your mission. Read, study, and know God’s word, and trust His plan for your life. Confidence in His faithfulness to provide will prevent you from becoming a victim of Satan’s “gifts”.
