Be Cautious – Seek Counselors

Did you grow up hearing “Be Careful!” when you started driving? I did! And there’s a reason…

With age comes experience. Hopefully some wisdom too. We naturally want to spare our loved ones from the pain of mistakes.

God, our Heavenly Father, expresses His heart throughout Scripture, and we should heed His warnings or all of His “Be Careful’s!”

Things like Proverbs 13:11: Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”

God teaches us balance – the balance between verses that say it’s wise to seek the counsel of many and the verses that warn that listening to too many people will lead us astray.

God wants us to be open, to listen to people with the same value system. And we’re to follow their direction with caution – to ultimately follow His leading.

Find honest people with a history of wise living. They should have no conflict of interest with their advice. A flashy lifestyle is usually a warning flag! So seek those who exhibit humility, joy, and faithful service.

When making financial decisions, don’t make assumptions or presume upon the future. You’ll get into trouble if you stretch to buy a house or a car with this mindset.

Before making major purchases, pray, seek counsel and total peace – especially with your spouse, and if you can’t find unity, then ask yourself, “Can I live without it?” Chances are you can.

Remember: The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.”(Proverbs 12:15)
