Are You Getting Enough Rest?

Do you get enough rest?

Amnesty International considers sleep deprivation a form of torture, and there’s good reason! Lack of sleep takes a toll on our health, our mood, our mental capacity, and our productivity. God created our bodies with a need for 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Plus, we need a full day of rest from work to operate at our highest capacity.

Listen to #4 of God’s 10 commandments. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.” (Exodus 20:8-10) I once observed a co-worker slur his speech during an important meeting. He spoke as if he’d been drinking. That same day, his wife called me, worried about his erratic behavior and moodiness. She wanted to know if I noticed anything unusual at the office. Well, it turns out, he’d been taking a diet pill that prevented him from getting proper rest for nearly 2 months. He was essentially exhausted.

We can’t function without adequate rest. Our work and decision-making are negatively impacted. So, try to go to bed earlier. Shut down all technology at least 30 minutes before then. Let your mind rest. Don’t work or study on Sundays. Give God and your loved ones your undivided attention. You’ll be blessed and be a blessing!
