Are You Financially Challenged

Are you financially challenged?

Most of our financial challenges can be resolved with a simple practice: “Give First, Save Second.” In Matthew 6, Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Scripture also declares that God owns everything. Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein…” Haggai 2:8 says, “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts.”

Now there are more verses than I have time to read. Giving acknowledges that everything we have is a gift from the Lord. You’re invited to share in His work through giving. Since God’s a giver, we should aim to be givers as well. After all, He predestined us to be conformed into the image of his son. Believing that everything is His enables us to handle money differently.  Learn to ask yourself “How much of God’s money should I spend on myself?instead of “How much of my money should I give?” Thinking this way will impact your budget and free up money for you to give more. Develop a plan then start giving weekly, monthly, and quarterly. Seek to increase that amount each year. Give first and soon you’ll be giving 10% of your gross annual income or more.
