Aim To Be Good

God expects us to be good and faithful stewards.

In the Parable of the Talents, the Lord commended the 5-talent and 2-talent stewards. He described them as “good”. Oftentimes we skip that word, assuming we know what it means, but it’s important to examine its rich meaning to grasp what the Lord expects of us. The definition of GOOD is this: morally excellent, pious, righteous, high quality, proper, honorable, and worthy. The word is first used in Genesis 1:3-4  “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”

Stewards are to be good managers. 3 John 11 says, “Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.” (3 John 1:11) We can be successful in managing money and yet miss the mark of doing what is good. Here’s an example. If a billionaire gives away his entire fortune, it demonstrates impressive generosity, but if the causes that money goes to advance are things contrary to what is morally excellent, honorable, or worthy the gift hasn’t done good but evil.

We need to examine what we hope to accomplish as we steward what God has entrusted to us. Do we give to causes that advance purposes that bring good to others? Will God commend our stewardship of the resources He’s given us? Let’s aim to always do good!
