A Cord of Three Strands

Are you ready to improve your finances?

Many people set goals, then struggle to keep them because they’re trying to do it alone. Solomon offers helpful advice in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either one of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” So, what do you need for that cord of three strands? First, invite the Lord to be your primary source of wisdom, counsel, and support. Commit to reading your Bible and praying for financial wisdom every day. If you’re married, ask your spouse to participate with you. Couples who never talk about their goals are surprised to learn that with a little kindness and humility, they can make a very good team. If your spouse is resistant, don’t give up. Keep loving and praying for a change of heart.

Now, if you’re single, ask some wise friends or mentors to walk alongside you. Their support and encouragement can help you achieve your goals. For example, if you’ve set financial goals for this year, consider asking about three people to serve as your voluntary Financial Advisory Board. Be sure they have no conflicts of interest. Agree to meet twice a year, or more as needed, to review your plans and progress. And one more thing, don’t take advice from people just because they’re rich, or have a TikTok following, or have strong opinions about money. Take advice from people who love God and demonstrate financial faithfulness.

And if you’re struggling with credit card debt, let Christian Credit Counselors be one of those strands. They can create a debt management plan just for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc.
