3 Stages of Life: Returning

Larry Burkett said: Most of what God gives you in life is not for you.

Do you know what he means by that?

There are 3 Stages of Life: Learning, Earning and Returning. We accumulate knowledge, apply ourselves to work, then generously pass on what we’ve accumulated to impact the world for Christ.

We take hold of life by giving away our time, treasure, experience, knowledge and wisdom. We do this when we imitate God. As beloved children (we are to) walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

The Apostle Paul said we’re to not be haughty, nor to set our hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.  We’re to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share – returning to others what God has generously given to us.

Returning gives purpose to the time spent learning and earning. It’s a tangible way of loving our neighbor as ourselves.

It can take the form of:

  •   Serving others in the giving of our time and resources.
  •   Mentoring others in the sharing of wisdom, knowledge and experience both in formal and informal settings. My father has a lifetime of learning that I glean from whenever I can. My board, church elders and friends share freely with me. And, I try to pass on what I’ve learned in many different settings.

Charles Spurgeon declared: Even if I give the whole of my worth to Him, He will find a way to give back to me much more than I gave.

It’s simple: Learn, Earn, Return.
