3 Stages of Life: Learning

The leaders I know are learners. President Truman said, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”

There are 3 Stages of Life: Learning, Earning and Returning.

The learning stage is where we absorb information. We go to school, learn a trade, gain certifications, and work. But, reading is one of the best ways to continue learning.

CEOs and executives read 4-5 books a month. They learn steps to success and how to avoid failure. They study history, politics, economics, science and literature to broaden their understanding of the world.

While there’s no shortage of great books to nurture our minds, a healthy Christian life must be nourished with Scripture. I once attended a Christian retreat of more than 60 men, and only two of us had read the Bible cover to cover.

Charles Spurgeon, a ferocious reader, said: Give yourself unto readingvisit MANY good books, but LIVE in the Bible.

It’s a living document that emphasizes learning. The more we read it, the stronger our Biblical Worldview and the greater our understanding of God’s Financial Principles.

CS Lewis claimed, We have to be continually reminded of what we believe. Neither this belief nor any other will automatically remain alive in the mind. It must be fed.

When the Apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome, he asked Timothy to bring his cloak, books, and above all the parchments. He longed for them.

The hallmark of the believer is a teachable spirit. Read the Bible and great books. Listen to them. Discuss them. You’ll become like men of Issachar: those who had understanding of the times.

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established. Learn!

If a lack of financial understanding has led to a burden of debt, using a debt management plan today can help ensure that you don’t have the same problems a decade from now.
