“All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
2 Timothy 3:12

Under Persecution
by Larry Burkett

It is my firm belief that if this country continues to evolve in the way it is going, on an anti-spiritual basis, eventually we will face physical persecution.

We already are facing a kind of a mental or emotional persecution; Christianity has been ridiculed and blamed for all the ills of the world, or at least of this country. Certainly that is true politically.

If this country continues to stay on the secular slide it is now on, we will be physically persecuted for our faith.

There’s no reason to believe that God will supernaturally intercede on behalf of Americans any more than He will on behalf of someone who is saved in Saudi Arabia or in China. They are just as precious to God as we are.

The only reason we haven’t suffered that kind of persecution is that our foundation was so thoroughly based in Christian principle that we are still living off the legacy of our forefathers. We can be thankful that we don’t have to face persecution for our beliefs.

We need to bear in mind the principle that Jesus Christ taught us: “If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you” (John 15:20).

Have you ever thought of what you would do if you were threatened with torture or death if you did not renounce Jesus Christ? God’s Word says that “If we endure, we shall also reign with Him” (2 Timothy 2:12).
