“Because you. . . did not ask for riches, wealth, or honor. . . but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge. . . wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will give you riches and wealth and honor.”

Two Ways to View Wealth

To most people, being wealthy means having an abundance of money. However, this falls short of what God’s Word describes as true wealth.

The worldly view of money is temporal. The biblical meaning is not restricted to money and earthly possessions. It goes far beyond the temporal values to include heavenly and eternal riches.

In Acts 5 we read about Ananias and Sapphira, short-sighted Christians who failed to realize the meaning of wealth and allowed Satan to fill their hearts with evil. As a result of their actions, they died.

On the other hand, Solomon wasn’t concerned with earthly wealth and, instead, asked for wisdom to rule God’s people. Because he wasn’t greedy, God gave him what he didn’t ask for—riches and wealth.

True wealth is never obtained by greed or selfishness; only the world’s wealth is achieved that way. God’s wealth is gained through ministering to others, and it lasts forever.

If you were given the choice between wisdom and wealth, which would you choose? How wealthy are you? What is the source of your wealth?
