“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”

The Guilt Trap
by Larry Burkett

We sometimes fail to trust God because, inwardly, we believe that God wants to deprive us and punish us. It is important to remember that God does not punish us, His children; He chastens us. Chastening is always directed toward correction, which is always for the benefit of the person being chastened.

Through the Holy Spirit, our Father convicts of wrong actions. On the other hand, Satan accuses. Correction of our errors is what the Lord wants; Satan’s desire is that we become depressed and despondent, convinced of our unworthiness to serve God. The Lord seeks to improve our service for Him, but Satan wants our guilt to paralyze us into idleness.

We must never forget that God loves us as His children, and what He does is always for our benefit. We must never allow difficulties to keep us from our Heavenly Father.

In Hebrews we read that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us.

God loved us when we were sinners. He will not stop loving us now if we sin.

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him. . . . He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday” (Psalm 37:5-6).
