“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Overcoming Financial Bondage
by Chuck Bentley

Yesterday’s devotion focused on the symptoms of financial bondage. If you saw one or more symptoms that applied to you, it’s important to bring your finances into line with biblical financial principles.

You may believe that financial bondage is common to everyone, but I assure you, there are people following God’s financial principles who are living a joyous, victorious life of financial freedom. You can, too.

Although I have seen some exceptions, you’re likely to be in financial bondage because of what you believe about money more than any other root cause.

The solution is found in today’s verse, Romans 12:2. God tells us we’ve been conformed, or molded, into the pattern of the world. You may profess to be a child of God and a follower of Christ, and yet your financial habits have been subtly conformed to what everybody else is doing.

That’s why it’s important to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, because it’s what you believe that changes your behavior. Applying spiritual truth leads to very practical results!

If you change what you believe about money from what society has taught you to what God wants to teach you, and you then apply that truth to your financial decisions, your behavior will change. It will remain consistent as you stay in God’s Word and are fed and nurtured by the Holy Spirit.

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all whotake refuge in him” (Psalm 18:30 NIV).
