“Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
(1 Corinthians 3:16 )

My Temple
by Larry Burkett

Scripture is clear that, as a believer, when we put our faith in Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit comes to reside in us.

Therefore, whatever I do and wherever I go, the Holy Spirit is with me in my words and in my actions. That’s a pretty sobering thought that should cause all Christians to stop and give thought to what we say and do. We are actual temples in which the Holy Spirit lives.

I have often regretted something I’ve just said or done or thought because I just included the Holy Spirit in my pettiness (or anger or resentment or irritation).

In the Old Testament He chose to make His presence known in the temple (the building). Now, living under the New Covenant, the Spirit lives within each born-again person.

When Scripture speaks of grieving the Holy Spirit, I think it means that the Spirit is emotionally, spiritually, and physically entwined in each and every believer. So we must bring our thoughts, actions, and deeds under God’s control.

To each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Corinthians 12:7).
