I Shall Return
by Larry Burkett

“I shall return” is a quote that was made famous during World War II by Gen. Douglas MacArthur as a promise to the people of the Philippine Islands while they were under enemy occupation.

We have that same promise from Jesus, and that should counteract any gloom, confusion, disappointment, sadness, or lack of hope we might have in this life.

We get so Earth-bound that we forget that this earth is not our home; we are just visitors here. Our real home is with Jesus Christ in Heaven, if we have accepted Him as Lord and Savior of our lives.

We should be looking forward to that day when His promise is fulfilled and He comes back to receive us unto Himself.

The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

We should do what verse 18 says, “Comfort one another with these words.”
