“A worthless person, a wicked man, is the one who walks with a false mouth, who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who points with his fingers.”

How Deceit Destroys
by Larry Burkett

Deceit is an external, visible expression of inner spiritual flaws. The most devastating loss associated with deceit is the dulling of our spiritual awareness.

Guilt associated with a known deception will cause us to withdraw from God’s presence. Once withdrawn, subsequent deceptions (lies) become easier, and we feel less conviction.

Often the pretense of spirituality remains (church, conferences, Bible studies), but the sensitivity and fellowship are gone. Literally, we no longer feel worthy and believe that we have failed God. If we allow this to continue, the result can easily be a life of defeat and frustration.

Fortunately, God knew we wouldn’t be perfect and made allowances for our weaknesses by a principle called confession. Confession is often more difficult than honesty would have been originally, but it is absolutely necessary to restore fellowship with God.

Since confession is so painful, total honesty will look more attractive the next time.
