Finding Security
by Chuck Bentley

When bad economic news is being reported daily, you may be tempted to feel insecure about your future, even if things are going well in your life.

However, economic downturns should not be a cause for panic. As Christians, we should not allow current events of any kind to lead us into fear-based decisions. Instead, we should avoid fear and panic, reduce our vulnerability created by debt, and remain dependent on Christ, who is the never-changing constant in an ever-changing economy. He loves us, and He will be there even when the money is not.

Regardless of what happens, remember that money does not give you identity or fulfillment; it only serves to empower or prohibit the fulfillment of the life purpose that God has ordained for you.

By trusting God and His ways, you will be anchored in the only true security and avoid the economic storms that batter those who’ve placed their faith in the lifeless hands of money. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (NIV). This promise from our faithful God is the only true security any of us really has.
