“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men”

Excellence in a Mediocre World
by Larry Burkett

There’s an old saying: “If you want someone to do a good job, find a busy person.” The precept is that a person who is not busy probably doesn’t want to be.

Obviously that’s not always true, but in the long run I have found a great deal of truth in it.

Many (or even most) people do no more than is necessary to meet the minimum standards set for them. They will continually belittle others who work to capacity and will demand more and more “protection” for their positions.

Solomon described these people well: “Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Proverbs 10:4).
