Divine Inspiration
by Chuck Bentley

Our world contains some 300,000 species of plants and 900,000 species of insects. And in the observable universe, there are an estimated 170 billion galaxies. Our God is awesome, and He provides for us in unseen ways through creativity and ideas.

Imagination and creativity are avenues through which God shares His thoughts with us. He wants us to turn to Him and ask for new ideas, insights, and inspiration.

When we receive these thoughts, it is important to acknowledge that they come from Him. We should never take credit for divine inspiration. Instead, we should follow the example of Daniel, who gave credit to God after he was divinely inspired not only to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream but also to first tell him what he had dreamed (Daniel 2:27-28).

You must seek the Lord and know His Word in order to determine if your thoughts are consistent with His. Be very, very humble and walk in reverence before God. Be careful not to open yourself up to vain, conceited thoughts and claim they are from Him.

Divine inspiration should be combined with work, diligence, and planning. Don’t ask God for the correct numbers to win the lottery or seek to manipulate Him in some other way to become rich quickly. God commended Solomon for not asking for foolish things (1 Kings 3:11-14).
