“Forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Being in God’s Will
by Larry Burkett
Even with the best discernment, it’s possible, and even probable, that we will do things that are out of God’s will.
How can you know God’s will for your life? God’s Word, the Bible, tells us what His will is. “If anyone is God-fearing, and does His will, He hears him” (John 9:31).
One sure way to step out of God’s path is to compromise His Word or His will for us and justify it by the obvious success it brings. Satan is quite willing and able to bless any plan that serves his purpose rather than God’s. Only by staying in God’s Word, praying, and seeking godly counsel can we avoid Satan’s traps.
Thomas Guthrie wrote, “If you find yourself loving any pleasure better than your prayers, any book better than the Bible, any persons better than Christ, or any indulgence better than the hope of heaven—take alarm.”
If you find yourself outside of God’s will and are experiencing a lack of peace (spiritual deadness), you must be willing to abandon everything and seek God’s path again—reaching toward the “goal for the prize of the upward call of God.”
