GIF A Biblical View of Success

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. . . .In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.”

A Biblical View of Success
by Chuck Bentley

One of the greatest mistakes humans make is to define success based on what they can do without God. Even Christians can allow their thinking to become tainted by humanism, which is the view that they are the cause and creator of their own success.

We celebrate human achievement and think that everything good in our history is a result of our own brilliance. However, if you truly know God and have a biblical worldview, you’ll see Him as the sole source of success. And, you’ll want to do everything on His terms.

One example of this is Nehemiah, who had the task of rebuilding Jerusalem. He knew he couldn’t do this on his own, so he cried out to God for help. Satan loves to mock and ridicule those who walk by faith, and Nehemiah was met with tremendous resistance. But like him, we must remain faithful to God despite the difficulties of life. Nehemiah did his part and trusted God to give him success.

Later, Nehemiah was able to write, “So on October 2 the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun. When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God” (Nehemiah 6:15-16 NLT).

“Have a dream and make it happen” is a lie. Your dream should be to do the Lord’s will. When you are faithful to this dream, you will experience success on God’s terms, not your own.
