My favorite book of the Bible is Proverbs. This is probably because I’m a very pragmatic, practical, and objective person, and the proverbs are perfectly suited for me.

One good thing, the proverbs cover a whole variety of topics, most of which are totally functional. In other words, you can read them and apply them.

They have been especially helpful in my line of teaching about borrowing, lending, saving, investing, whom to trust and not to trust, the importance of seeking counsel, where to seek counsel, how to judge good counsel—just practical things.

Just because Proverbs is my favorite book (and the most applicable) doesn’t mean that I don’t love all of the other books.

The Bible is full of history and drama, miracles and promises, teachings and instructions. It is our handbook for living, and we should cherish it above all other possessions.

You’ll enjoy your Bible more if you will get a modern translation, a good Bible dictionary, and a concordance. Then you can study it and learn what God has put in His Word.

Man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 8:3).
