Are You Trapped in Fear?

Are you trapped in fear?

Dedicated Christians can get trapped in the “what-ifs” of extended illness, disability, or unemployment. The fear of running out of money or economic collapse can be paralyzing. God wants us to consider these things and even plan for them, within reason, but a Christian must consciously reject the attitude of fear, because fear is the opposite of trust.

If we live in fear of the future, we suffer by not putting our trust in the Lord. Now, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t financially plan, but to live in fear means taking on a responsibility that belongs to God. Fear can cause people to lose their witness. It can keep them from changing jobs or careers. It can prevent them from stretching their wings and exploring new opportunities that are better suited for their unique design. Fear can even lead some families to sacrifice for that elusive day known as retirement. Then they’ll miss out on opportunities to serve together and bless others in the here and now.

The opposite of fear is faith. Hebrews 11 describes it as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) God allows all of us to have some needs in order that we may develop faith in Him because He’s our Provider. Try to view future needs as opportunities to exercise and develop faith in His ability to do his part. So why not start practicing faith today? God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. It’s our choice. Don’t miss the freedom found in trusting Him completely!
