Until He Comes

“Come, Jesus, Come” is one of my favorite songs!

First Corinthians 15:52 tells us that Christ will return “in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye.” Until then, we have work to do. It can be easy to look at troubling events in the world and wonder if they’re signs of Christ’s imminent return. Instead, we hope, pray, and keep faithfully serving Him with obedient, trusting hearts. That includes using finances wisely. God has entrusted each of us with time, abilities, relationships, opportunities, and material resources. We should manage them with an eternal perspective.

Instead of asking, “How much can I accumulate before I die?”, faithful stewards ask, “How can I use what God’s given me to accomplish His purposes while I’m still here?” That means working diligently, providing for our families, and giving generously. We help those in need, support the spread of the Gospel, and prepare the next generation to follow Christ. Paul concludes this chapter with an important instruction: “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”

So whether Christ returns tomorrow or generations from now doesn’t change our assignment today. We should plan wisely for the future while living faithfully in the present. We don’t know how much time we have, but we do know who does. So, stay faithful and focused. Work as unto the Lord. Keep serving with joy, giving generously, and sharing the good news as we look forward to that day!
