Don’t Think Too Highly of Yourself!
Do you think too highly of yourself?
Humility is the priceless cornerstone of financial wisdom. It will change the way you think about money, the way you make money, and the way you spend money. Eliminating pride is important because God is not neutral about it at all. The Bible says He “opposes the proud.” He doesn’t just withdraw from us or look the other way. He actively opposes or resists people who think too highly of themselves. In other words, He stands against them.
Now, the day you realize this, you’ll truly want to repent of your pride and increase in humility. You won’t mind having less notoriety in the world while others are seeking increasing levels of popularity and approval. After all, you have an inheritance and far greater rewards awaiting you in heaven.
Pride puts you in an adversarial position with the Lord. Even though your efforts to impress others may gain you some temporary notoriety, it will bring God’s opposition and cost you blessings, not only in this world but also in the one to come. Humble stewards recognize and acknowledge that God is the real owner of everything. They accept the responsibility of wisely managing all that He provides.
Pride tempts us to seek recognition, to compare ourselves with others, and to use money to elevate our status. Humility frees us to serve and give with a grateful heart. Financial success should never make us self-sufficient or to think more highly of ourselves. It should make us increasingly thankful to the One who provides.
