The Importance of Remembering

Do you remember what God has done for you?

David praises the Lord multiple times in Psalm 103. In verse 2, he declares, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” This verse reminds us that gratitude is essential to honoring God. It’s important to recognize that our income, possessions, abilities, opportunities, and even life itself come from the Lord. Meditating on God’s blessings develops a heart that is thankful rather than entitled.

Gratitude impacts our financial decisions. People who regularly remember God’s provision are less likely to be consumed with comparison, greed, or the need for more. They learn to be content with what God has provided. Thankful stewards are also more generous. They understand the value of passing along blessings to others. Psalm 103 encourages us to remember God’s faithfulness during difficult seasons.

Financial challenges can tempt us to doubt God’s care or make fear-based decisions. Reflecting on God’s past provision strengthens confidence that He will continue to meet our needs in His perfect timing. This trust enables stewards to continue giving, saving, budgeting, and planning with faith instead of fear.

Stewardship is much more than managing money; it’s an act of worship. A grateful heart produces a faithful steward. Remembering God’s many benefits cultivates contentment, generosity, and trust—qualities that lead to wise financial decisions and a life that glorifies God.
