Take the opportunity to teach your children while they’re young. 

Whether you’re certified or not, everyone with children is an educator. We teach our children by the example we set, and if we’re not intentional, we can waste daily opportunities to instill Biblical values. We teach dependence on the Lord by praising Him for his mercy, his kindness, and generosity. We can teach trust in His provision when we pray about our own needs. We help children develop the habit of gratitude by giving thanks in all circumstances, whether we have a little or a lot. We tell how God punished the Israelites for complaining, which is why we should not do it. There’s always something to thank Him for. We just have to be attentive!

We demonstrate generosity whether with little or much. Children learn to experience the joy of giving when using their own money or possessions. Pray together about someone you can help financially with your time, skill, and talents. In giving, we find joy in sharing what God has given to us. Children who discover this will look for opportunities to help others for the rest of their lives. Encourage their generosity. It’s a motivator for working to have resources available to share with others. It broadens their pool of contacts for further work and finding those who need help. Six times in Psalm 119, the writer says he will meditate on God’s mighty deeds. When we fill our minds with noble truths, we can’t help but overflow in teaching them to the children that God has entrusted to us.
