Financial Lessons from 20 Loaves
Do you ever think you just don’t have enough?
Are you struggling with limited resources? In 2 Kings 4, the prophet Elisha was given 20 loaves of barley bread and instructed his servant to feed it to a hundred men. The servant thought, “How will this feed a hundred hungry men?” From a human perspective, the bread was insufficient for the need, but Elisha was confident in what God promised: “They will eat and have some left over.” (2 Kings 4:43) And that’s exactly what happened. A hundred men ate, and there was food remaining.
Now, there are financial lessons to learn from this! First, God is not limited by what appears to be insufficient. Many people live in fear because they focus entirely on the size of their resources. They look at their income, savings account, or circumstances and conclude, “It’s just not enough.” Scripture consistently reminds us to look to the Lord, our ultimate provider.
Second, the miracle began with what was available. The man didn’t wait until he had an abundance to bring an offering. He brought what he had: just 20 loaves. Like him, we must faithfully manage today’s resources rather than waiting for tomorrow’s increase. Finally, God’s provision followed obedience. Elisha’s servant had to distribute the bread before he could see how God would provide. God may not miraculously multiply our finances, but we can trust Him with what He’s entrusted to us. Because He’s able to accomplish far more than we could ever imagine.
