Check Your Gaming Habits

Have you checked your habits recently?

If you’ve traveled through the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, you may have noticed their premium video game lounge. According to reports, the Portal Lounge features gaming stations equipped with Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and custom-built gaming PCs. For many travelers, it sounds like a fun way to pass the time, but it also raises an important question: How do we steward our time and money?

Gaming can provide enjoyment, relaxation, and even social connection, but gaming addiction is a growing challenge, especially among younger generations. A hobby can become a habit, crowding out relationships, responsibilities, and spiritual growth. Ephesians 5 says, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.” (Ephesians 5:15-16) That’s a call to steward the use of our time.

God has entrusted us not only with money but with a limited, precious amount of time. Every hour is a gift to be used wisely. The question isn’t whether we play games, watch movies, or enjoy hobbies. The question is whether those things are serving us or controlling us.

Wise stewardship means enjoying God’s gifts without being mastered by them. So take a moment to consider: Are your habits helping you fulfill God’s purposes, or distracting you from them? Faithful stewardship isn’t just about how we spend our money. It’s also about how we spend our lives.
