Pokemon Card Sets Record at Auction

It’s Crazy Money Day!

5 years ago, a rare Pikachu Pokémon card was purchased for over $5 million. Earlier this year, the card sold for nearly 16 and a half million dollars. That’s the second time the card broke a Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon card sold at auction. I think that’s crazy!

Before you start buying up cards, remember 1 Timothy 6:9. It warns that “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap.” The love of money can distract us from contentment. Instead of thanking God for what we have, we begin chasing what we think will make us happy. We obsess with what we think will make us rich! It ruins relationships by crowding out time with family and the Lord. It prevents us from living generously when our goal is more.

Money can create a false sense of security. It’s tempting to trust in a growing bank account instead of trusting in Christ, but markets fluctuate, jobs change, and circumstances shift. True security has never been found in dollars, only in Christ and Christ alone.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, “Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Money follows the heart, and the heart follows the treasure. Money kept in its proper place is a tool under God’s authority and blesses others. So, ask yourself: is money serving me, or am I serving it? Keep your eyes on eternal treasure without getting distracted by the world or Pokémon cards.
