Crazy Money! Spending That Doesn’t Satisfy
It’s Crazy Money Day!
Are you spending money on things that don’t satisfy? Long ago, the Israelites abandoned God and set their affections on worldly things. They didn’t hunger or thirst after spiritual blessings. Instead, they enriched themselves. The more they accumulated, the less they were satisfied. Isaiah exposed their costly unbelief. In chapter 55, verse 2, God asks them: “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?”
Now that’s a question for us today. God invites everyone to enter into his promised blessing, but we’re blinded by things of this world. We chase the latest technology, bigger homes, newer cars, and trendier clothes. Yet anxiety, debt, and dissatisfaction are at record levels. What’s crazy is that people often work harder to buy things that add pressure, not peace. We finance furniture and purchase cars we can’t afford. We upgrade phones unnecessarily, and wonder why we’re stretched.
God’s question in Isaiah asks: Why exhaust yourself chasing things that don’t nourish your soul? Bread sustains. Truth satisfies. Obedience brings peace. Money can buy temporary comfort, but it cannot buy contentment. It can purchase entertainment, but it cannot purchase joy.
So, where is your labor going? Are you sacrificing time, family, or health simply to buy more? Sometimes the most spiritual financial decision that you can make is to say, “Enough.”
