Training That Counts
Are you doing any financial training?
Every four years, we watch Olympic athletes perform at the highest level in the world. What we don’t see is the work they put in to get there: years of consistent diligence and sacrifice. They believe the goal is worth the cost. That principle applies to how we handle money, too. Most people don’t drift into financial health, but many do drift into financial hardship. They spend beyond their means based on convenience, impulse, and peer pressure.
The right training always says “No” to something good in order to say “Yes” to something better. Here are some questions worth asking:
• What financial goals are you training for?
• What habits are you practicing daily?
• What is borrowing costing you long-term?
Athletes set goals, count calories, and track their workouts. Wise stewards set goals, count the cost of debt, and track their spending. They build financial margin. They prepare for emergencies and save for the future. They practice generosity. It’s not easy, but they know it leads somewhere better.
If your current financial habits aren’t taking you where you want to go, you’re not alone. God’s financial principles help the rich, the poor, and all those in between to build a plan, reduce their stress, and train toward lasting freedom – one decision at a time. The Bible says, “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” (1 Corinthians 9:25)
And if credit card debt is keeping you from financial freedom, Christian Credit Counselors can help. They’ll create a debt management plan just for you. For more information, visit online at crown.org/ccc.
