Crazy Money! The Fear of Having Babies
It’s Crazy Money Day!
A recent report found that the median price for infant center-based childcare in Tennessee was nearly $14,000 a year! Now, that exceeds in-state tuition at every public university in the state! That’s crazy!
Child care is the largest expense many families face, often surpassing housing. Many couples today are delaying childbirth or choosing not to have a family because they fear the cost. The reality is that many of these projected costs are exaggerated. We have an enemy who desires to prevent and destroy families in any way he can. A Christian mother is perhaps the most influential person in a baby’s life. Those first few weeks, months, and years are critical. She impacts and shapes their values, character, and faith. Her nurturing presence is foundational for emotional and spiritual development. Consider what the Apostle Paul wrote in his 2nd letter to Timothy. “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5)
That supports my point! Young people, get a budget and plan for the future. Stop spending money you don’t have. Learn to discern between needs and wants. Honor the Lord first in your giving. Then, as soon as you can, begin living on one income while saving the other. Your dedication will prevent financial stress when a baby arrives. Whenever possible, make plans so Mom can stay home with the baby. Ask God to provide! His ways far exceed our comprehension!
Now, I’m excited to invite you to join us in Knoxville, Tennessee, September the 10th through the 13th, as we celebrate all that God has done through Crown over the last 50 years. Learn more at crown.org/50years.
