Testimony Tuesday – Victim of a Romance Scam
It’s Testimony Tuesday!
A Client recently sent us her story:
“I was encouraged by a Care Minister at my church to enroll in Crown’s Budget Coaching course during a challenging period in my life. I fell victim to a romance financial scam. The impact was devastating, for I lost all my retirement savings. The aftermath left me overwhelmed by guilt, shame, and anxiety, fearing what the future might hold.
At 67 years old, I was approaching retirement. Many of my friends were already making the transition, which only intensified my worries. The financial setback and the uncertainty about my own retirement plans weighed heavily on my mind. Crown’s Budget Coach course and coach provided me with encouragement and a renewed sense of faith. I was reminded that even when circumstances seem negative, good can eventually come from them. This perspective has helped me remain grateful for the experience and hopeful about the future. Much like the story of Joseph and his brothers, what was intended for evil, God turned into good.
The most significant lesson I learned is that everything belongs to God. We are stewards, not owners. We should use His gifts to glorify Him rather than for personal pleasure or self-indulgence. It’s easy to feel like we ‘earned’ our treasures by our hard work, so we can eat, drink, and be merry in our retirement years. Money can become an idol, but we can’t serve both God and money. I’ve learned it’s an honor and privilege to give and serve others in His name.”
