Give Better – Part 2
Do you want to be a better giver?
Change your outlook on giving by asking one question: If God owns everything, how much of His money should I spend on myself? Check your spending. Are there areas where you can cut back—things you don’t really need? Constantly giving in to wants robs our families of learning to be content. It ruins the joy of occasional splurges. Before long, luxuries become expectations. Our flesh is never fully satisfied, so we must learn to take control.
According to the Bible, how we manage money will impact eternal rewards, which far surpass earthly comforts. We’re told to take hold of that which is truly life by wisely stewarding whatever God entrusts to us. We should develop a lifestyle of giving more than just money. We can be generous with words of encouragement, spiritual gifts, time, talents, possessions, wisdom, and experience. One day, each of us will stand before the Lord to give an account. Generosity is for our good, but, more importantly, for His glory!
As the Apostle Paul said: “Command those who are rich not to be arrogant, nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but in God, who richly provides everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:17–19)
