Crazy Money! Big (REALLY BIG) TV Screens

It’s Crazy Money Day!

Do you watch TV? What size of screen do you have? Retailers, like Best Buy, predict shoppers will splurge on big-screen TVs this season. So, they’ve doubled up on extra, extra, large models like the 97-inchers and up. My home screen is 38″, and when I bought it on sale a couple of years ago, my wife thought it was a little too big. Axios reports that select stores offer a model that’s roughly 10 feet wide and 6 feet high. It weighs 320 pounds, and the price is $130,000, though some retailers are offering it for $20,000 less. Can you imagine? I think that’s crazy!

Overall, TVs are cheaper now than they were a year ago. A projector is a good option, but a good bookcase would be an even better investment. John Piper says books have a life-shaping impact, and I agree. Piper says the Bible and good books reveal the glory, greatness, character, attributes, and beauty of God. They convict of sin and show the path of righteousness. Think of C.S. Lewis’s razor-sharp logic that was developed over years of reading great books. Reading can cultivate deep convictions and develops the mind in a way that TV can’t. It requires thought and inspires positive action. Big screens are primarily used for entertainment or vegging out. So don’t waste your money on a huge TV. Think eternal so you’ll wisely manage what God’s given you.
