Be the Best You Can Be

Do you strive to be the best you can be?

Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go.” Noah was told to build a ship. Abraham was instructed to leave his home for a strange land. David became Israel’s finest king. Daniel was appointed to interpret dreams. The Apostle Paul was called to become the church’s first missionary, evangelist, and pastor.

When our founder, the late Larry Burkett, was young, he decided that, no matter what, he was going to be better at something than anybody else. That made many decisions for him much easier. For one thing, when he got in a job where he knew he wasn’t very good, he would leave. In college, he changed his major from engineering to business because he realized he would never be the best engineer. He tried different career paths, always seeking to become the best. After surrendering his life and following the leading of God, Larry started this ministry. He realized he knew more about the area of biblical finances than most anyone else. At that point, he was functioning at his very best. He knew he was where God wanted him to be, and there’s nothing better than that.

Outside of a love for the Lord and a personal relationship with Him, Larry wanted to emphasize one thing for his grandchildren. He said he’d tell them to find out what they’re good at and what they really enjoy. Then, with God’s help, strive to become the best they can be. Maybe that advice hits home for you. Put your plans before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to show you where you, too, can become the best.
